Visit Petra

The city of Petra, capital of the Nabataean Arabs, is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world.

It is not known precisely when Petra was built, but the city began to prosper as the capital of the Nabataean Empire from the 1st century BC, which grew rich through trade in frankincense, myrrh, and spices.

Petra was later annexed to the Roman Empire and continued to thrive until a large earthquake in 363 AD destroyed much of the city in the 4th century AD.
The earthquake combined with changes in trade routes, eventually led to the downfall of the city which was ultimately abandoned.

Wear comfortable shoes and a hat to protect your head from the sun, and carry plenty of drinking water.

1:00 pm

Head to Wadi Rum

Your driver will be waiting for you after you finish sightseeing in Petra to take you to Wadi Rum Village where you will meet your Bedouin guide to take you through the protected area to your camp.

You will participate in preparation for the traditional bedouin dinner “Zarb”.

It is a traditional Bedouin underground oven used by nomadic herding peoples in the Arabian Peninsula. Much like a barbeque, the methods start by digging a hole in the soft sand. Then cook down wood to coals, place the food over the coal and cover the hole with sand.

The bedouin chef will be telling you about the practices and techniques used to make the best “Zarb” while you witness the food taken out of the ground.

5:00 pm
