Traveling to Jordan with Kids
Jordan is a diverse country offering a wide range of terrain, rich history, and countless activities to explore. While not all places may be ideal for a family vacation, there are plenty of options to enjoy with your loved ones. From exploring ancient historic sites to riding camels or splashing in the Red Sea, Jordan truly has something for everyone. It’s also important to note that Jordanians love children, and family comes above all else.
However, there are a few things to consider for a smoother trip. Many streets in Amman are not very pedestrian-friendly, and in more remote areas, navigating with a stroller can be challenging. It’s easier to travel with kids who can walk on their own. Many historic sites also require some walking, so it’s advisable to adjust your expectations and perhaps take things at a slower pace. Despite these challenges, there’s so much to see, explore, and taste that your kids will enjoy too.
Public transportation in Jordan is not widespread, and it can be challenging for foreigners to navigate, especially without knowledge of Arabic. Buses tend to wait until they’re full before departing, which isn’t ideal when traveling with children. While taxis or Uber are great options for getting around Amman, if you want to explore more of the country, MyFairyTrail can help organize transportation tailored to your family’s needs. This ensures your safety and helps you manage time efficiently throughout your trip.

Amman
Amman will most likely be the starting point (and possibly the end) of your Jordan itinerary. While you don’t need many days here, it’s definitely worth reserving some time to explore the capital. One of the best places to visit is the Citadel, a must-see whether you’re traveling with kids or not. It offers some of the best views of the city, including a stunning view of the Roman Theater.
You can explore the Temple of Hercules, the Amman Citadel, and a small museum. The best part is that children can move around freely without the worry of traffic, making it an easy and enjoyable visit for families.
Also, make sure to check out our one-day trails that cover different parts of Jordan, giving you a chance to experience more of the country’s beauty and history.

Amman Citadel with Children
A stroll through Amman Downtown is a must, as is a visit to the Roman Theater. Kids will likely find it far more entertaining than any history lesson! As you explore downtown, you’ll encounter sand bottle makers, who will happily create a personalized bottle with your child’s name written inside the sand—an unforgettable souvenir.
Abdali Boulevard is also a great spot for families, as it’s one of the few car-free areas in Amman, providing a safe and relaxing environment. You can enjoy a visit to the shopping mall or catch a movie, while also taking a leisurely walk along the boulevard. There are plenty of food options, ice cream shops, and sweet treats to enjoy. Additionally, you might find seasonal events such as festivals, markets, or even Christmas and summer celebrations.
If you’re looking for indoor activities for children, most shopping malls in Amman feature soft play areas or indoor playgrounds. Your kids can enjoy stacking LEGO bricks, climbing walls, or bouncing on trampolines to burn off some energy.
Amman also offers a selection of family-friendly museums. For older children, the Museum of Jordan or the Royal Tank Museum might be of interest, while younger kids will enjoy the Royal Automobile Museum or the Children’s Museum, both of which offer interactive and engaging experiences.

Petra and Wadi Rum
If you’ve never been to Jordan, chances are that Petra and Wadi Rum are at the top of your list. Along with Aqaba, they form what is known as the Golden Triangle of Jordan—a must-visit trio of destinations.
Petra is an unforgettable experience, and kids will love it too! If you’re traveling with younger children, it’s best to plan for a visit to the Siq and the iconic Treasury, as the walk can be long. However, with older children, you can venture deeper into the ancient rose-red city, discovering its breathtaking facades, unique rock formations, and stone colors ranging from soft pinks to deep reds.
Make your family’s visit even more exciting by turning it into a discovery tour of the Nabataean civilization, uncovering the secrets of this ancient wonder together!

Aqaba – Red Sea
In Aqaba, you can unwind on the beach, soak up the sun, and let your kids splash in the pool or build sandcastles along the shore. The city’s family-friendly hotels are well-equipped with playgrounds, entertainment programs, and kid-friendly dining options.
For a more adventurous experience, explore Aqaba’s vibrant marine life:
