A Glimpse of Wadi Mujib

Wadi Mujib is often referred to as the “Grand Canyon of Jordan,” and for good reason. As you make your way to the reserve, you’ll be greeted by towering cliffs, vibrant flora, and the soothing sound of flowing water. The reserve is home to a diverse ecosystem, with various plant and animal species that thrive in its rugged terrain. Also, the canyon reaches depths of over 1,300 meters below sea level, making it one of the lowest nature reserves in the world.

When does Wadi Mujib open and why does it close?

Wadi Mujib is a water-filled canyon where visitors wade through running waters, swim through natural pools, and climb over rocks and boulders. During winter time (November to March) the water level and temperature may pose challenges but the main reason for closure besides this inconvenience is “flash floods”. Sudden heavy rainfall has previously led to accidents in other canyons. To avoid risk, we strongly advise against all canyon adventures during rainy periods. Fortunately, Jordan’s summer months (April to September) are typically rain-free, making this the ideal time to visit

Consult with your local advisor for up-to-date information and more details.

Best time to visit Wadi Mujib and which trail to take?

The “Mujib Siq Trail” is the highlight of this experience offering an exciting combination of hiking and water challenges. The trail starts with an ascend through the canyon and a hike along the water stream passing by adrenaline-booster sections until you reach the main waterfall. On the way back, you can just lie down and get carried on by the running water stream. An experience that will bring back the child in you. Book your canyon hike today.

Weekends (Friday and Saturday) are popular times for locals and expats to visit, so weekdays offer a quieter and more peaceful experience. The site welcomes visitors from 8:30 AM until 2:30 PM. The canyon provides shade, making direct sunlight and heat less of a concern.

The two other trails require a trained guide and prior reservation. If you are into longer adventurous canyon hikes, we can recommend other trails that are off the tourist map. create your own personalized trip and select “Hiking” as the main activity.

How difficult is the Siq Trail?

Reaching the final waterfall entails a moderately challenging, hour-long hike. The trail, often slippery and uneven, necessitates good physical fitness and a spirit of adventure. Individuals with limited mobility or those who are uncomfortable with water-related activities may find the hike demanding.

What to wear and what to bring?

Wear quick-drying clothing or a swimsuit with water-resistant shoes. My diving shoes were perfect. Regular shoes can get filled with small rocks from the current, but the main thing is to have non-slip footwear.

Life jackets are provided at the main entrance and are included in the entrance fee.

Tip: Leave the hat behind; it might get swept away by the water! 🙂

To capture those stunning photos, make sure to bring a waterproof bag or case for your phone or camera.

If you don’t want to worry about this now, water shoes and waterproof bags can be purchased at the main entrance for 10 JOD each.

Are there lockers/changing rooms available?

You’ll find free access to toilets, showers, and changing rooms inside the center.

Unfortunately, there are no lockers available, but you can store your valuables with your driver. All our drivers are trustworthy, so you can rest assured.

Planning a family adventure to the Mujib Reserve?

The trail is not suitable for children, so those under 18 years old are not permitted to enter. There are other canyon hikes in the area that are more suitable for families which we organize private guided day tours to.

Another great way to enjoy the area with your family is to stay overnight at the Mujib Chalets. Set in a beautiful location, the chalets provide stunning views of the Dead Sea and the surrounding landscape.
