A Glimpse of Wadi Mujib

Wadi Mujib is often called the “Grand Canyon of Jordan”, and for good reason. As you approach the reserve, you’ll be welcomed by towering cliffs, vibrant flora, and the calming sound of flowing water. The reserve boasts a rich ecosystem, home to diverse plant and animal species that thrive in its rugged terrain. Additionally, the canyon plunges to depths of over 1,300 meters below sea level, making it one of the lowest nature reserves in the world.

Which Months Is the Canyon Open and Why Does It Close?

Wadi Mujib is a breathtaking water-filled canyon where visitors can wade through flowing streams, swim in natural pools, and climb over rocks and boulders. However, the site is closed during the winter months (November to March) due to rising water levels and colder temperatures. The primary reason for its seasonal closure is the risk of flash floods, which can occur suddenly after heavy rainfall, posing serious dangers to visitors.

To ensure safety, all canyon adventures are strongly discouraged during rainy periods. Fortunately, Jordan’s summer months (April to September) are typically dry, making this the best and safest time to explore Wadi Mujib.

Consult with your local advisor for up-to-date information and more details.

What is the best time to visit Wadi Mujib and which trail to take?

Drifting back down the stream

The Mujib Siq Trail is the highlight of Wadi Mujib, offering a thrilling mix of hiking and water challenges. The trail begins with an ascent through the canyon, followed by a scenic hike along the water stream, where you’ll navigate adrenaline-pumping sections before reaching the main waterfall. On your way back, you can simply float downstream, letting the rushing waters carry you—an experience sure to awaken your inner child!

Best Time to Visit:
Weekends (Friday and Saturday) are popular among locals and expats, making weekdays a quieter and more peaceful option. The site welcomes visitors daily from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. The canyon’s natural shade provides relief from the sun, making it a comfortable adventure even in warm weather.

Other Trails & Custom Adventures:
Beyond the Mujib Siq Trail, two additional canyon trails require a trained guide and prior reservation. For those seeking a more challenging off-the-beaten-path experience, we can recommend longer, adventurous canyon hikes. Create your own personalized trip and select “Hiking” as your main activity to explore Jordan’s hidden trails!

Book your canyon hike today and experience the adventure of a lifetime!

How difficult is the Siq Trail?

Reaching the final waterfall requires a moderately challenging one-hour hike through slippery and uneven terrain. A good level of physical fitness and a sense of adventure are essential. Those with limited mobility or discomfort with water-based activities may find this trail particularly demanding.

What to wear and what to bring?

For your visit, it’s best to wear quick-drying clothing or a swimsuit paired with water-resistant shoes. I found my diving shoes to be perfect for the trail. Regular shoes can easily fill with small rocks carried by the current, so the key is to have non-slip footwear for safety and comfort.

Life jackets are provided at the main entrance and are included in the entrance fee.

Tip: Leave your hat behind—it might get swept away by the water! 😊

To snap those incredible photos, be sure to bring a waterproof bag or case for your phone or camera.

If you haven’t prepared yet, don’t worry! Water shoes and waterproof bags are available for purchase at the main entrance for 10 JOD each.

Are there lockers/changing rooms available?

Inside the center, you’ll find free access to toilets, showers, and changing rooms for your convenience.

Unfortunately, there are no lockers available, but you can safely store your valuables with your driver. Rest assured, all our drivers are trustworthy, so you can feel confident leaving your items with them.

Planning a family adventure to the Mujib Reserve?

The trail is not suitable for children, so individuals under 18 are not permitted to enter. However, there are other canyon hikes in the area that are more family-friendly, and we organize private guided day tours for those interested.

For a more relaxing family experience, consider staying overnight at the Mujib Chalets. Set in a beautiful location, the chalets offer stunning views of the Dead Sea and the surrounding landscape, providing the perfect setting for a memorable family getaway.
